Trixie Mattel is the most Googled contestant worldwide, topping the lists in countries with the biggest populations, and coming out on top in the global chart. Trixie is Googled nearly 4 million times more than the next Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestant, Chi Chi Devayne. Trixie Mattel has been werking hard since her time on the show, with a Wikipedia entry that not only lists her as a drag queen, but also as a singer-songwriter, comedian, author, actor, entrepreneur and all-round TV personality. Trixie appeared on 2015’s season 7 of the franchise, where she came 6th (coming back into the competition in the Conjoined Twins episode after originally going out in 11th place). Since then, she’s released three studio albums, a viral YouTube series turned TV show with fellow contestant Katya Zamolodchikova, co-authored a book with Katya, launched her own make-up line Trixie Cosmetics, and returned to the Ru Paul franchise to compete in All Star’s season 3 which she went on to win. With so much going on in in so many industries, it’s clear to see why Trixie is the most searched for drag race contestant – even six years after she first went on the show!
The second most Googled contestant last year was Chi Chi Devayne, whose untimely death in 2020 was mourned greatly by the drag community. Google searches came in high volumes across the world last year as fans wanted to find out more about the life and death of the charismatic queen from Shreveport, Louisiana.
The third most Googled drag queen from the show is Gigi Goode with 1.7 million searches made for her last year. Following her appearance on season 12, Gigi has appeared in a Savage X Fenty fashion show and in multiple music videos.
Other global favourites from Ru Paul’s Drag Race include season 7 winner Violet Chachki, season 12 runner up Crystal Methyd and All Star favourite, Jujubee.
Countries love queens that have national links to them, with the research showing Katya being Googled a lot in Russia, Bebe Zahara Benet being popular in Cameroon, Courtney Act in the top three in Australia, Nicky Doll number one in France and The Vivienne being Googled the most in the UK.
